Gorgeous Baby Shower Present Ideas – Make Your Own Baby Blanket!

Baby Showers are such a joyous occasion not just for the “Mum To Be” but for all the friends and family who get to spoil her and “Oooh and Aaahh” over all the gorgeous miniature presents.

So the biggest question before you go to one of these special occasions is what to take as a present. Well, I have been to quite a few baby showers in my time and whenever anyone gives a hand-made present an extra special fuss is made over it because everyone realises what thought and effort went into making it.

Also don’t forget the extra credit you’ll get for months or years to come when that baby arrives wrapped in or wearing the gift that YOU MADE!

Now relax if you’re not a very crafty kind of person because I have shown friends of mine how to make these cute Baby Blankets and some of them can hardly sew straight lines!

UNIQUE BLANKIES!

STep 1: Go to a fabric shop and look for some flannelet material you like.

STEP 3: I always choose different fabrics for each side. It makes it more colourful and also the mum can mix and match depending on what the baby is wearing that day. If you’re not sure of the sex then choose unisex colours or you could do one side blue and one side pink or purple.

STEP 3: Ask the assistant to cut your fabric to 1.2 metres.

STEP 4: Sit at a large flat table to pin your fabric together. Make sue the pattern is facing IN.

STEP 5: Try and sew a STRAIGHT lines on each side, but remember to leave a gap of about 10 cm on one side.

STEP 6: Turn the fabric out the right way so the pattern is on the outside.

STEP 7: Go to the hole and tuck the edges in so it looks neat and tidy like the rest of the blanket. You may want to iron it down so it stays flat.

STEP 8: Here’s where we sew all around the edge of the blanket. The easiest way is just to sew 2 straight lines. One of the lines is to sew the gap up and the other is placed just next to it, so it looks pretty along the border.

You can also do one fancy stitch instead of two straight ones. But make sure you have a bit of a practice on some scrap fabric first.

STEP 9: You’re done with the sewing! YAY! Now fold the blanket nicely and add a pretty bow.

STEP 10: Give your special handmade blankie and watch her face as she realizes youve taken the time and effort to make her special little baby a truly unique present.
