Baby Hates ' Tummy Time'?

My 2.5 month old son hates tummy time.I see all these books saying he should be able to push his chest up with his arms, and another he can keep his head lifted, he does not even try to use his arms. He is a strong baby, he can keep his head straight when sitting. He loves to " stand" and push up on his legs. He has not started reaching for objects or anything, but he loves mobiles and lights and peoples faces. When on his tummy he screams like someone is hurting him, he has even flipped him self back to his side a few times. What should I do? Is tummy time very important? I don't want him to skip the crawling stage! help!Oh- and I've tried putting toys in front of him, laying on my belly and looking ta him, singing, dancing, clapping, i've tried * everything*.
Thanks for the input! I guess I'll try letting him cry a little. It's just so hard to see him that upset! And I'll talk to his doctor at our next visit.

Answer
I don't think babies are *supposed* to love tummy time. I always thought that the point was for them to be slightly uncomfortable so that they would use their muscles that are seldomly used when they're not on their tummies to try and get out of that position. Most of the time I put my 10 week old on her belly, she simply falls asleep so I don't feel like she's benefiting from it. But I understand you not liking to hear him fuss, so have you tried putting him on your chest or on his daddy's chest for tummy time? It's the same as the floor and he'll probably like it a lot more.

P.S. Don't worry yourself if your baby isn't doing the things all the books (and a lot of places on the internet) say he should be doing...they all grow differently.
