Zhu Zhu Pets – This Year’s Xmas Number One Toy?
Based upon the current level of sales, it looks as if Zhu Zhu Pets are a hot tip for this year's top selling Christmas toy. Zhu Zhu pets are a collection of five motorized hamsters which interact with each other, their environment and the children playing with them.
Each of the five different Zhu Zhu hamsters - Chunk, Mr. Squiggles, Patches, Num Nums and Pipsqueak - have their own distinct personalities and unique character traits. Apart from Patches, who is included as part of the "Hamster Starter Set", all of the hamsters can be bought individually. There are two modes of play - "nurturing" and "exploring".
In nurturing mode the hamsters respond to petting by emitting cute little noises. Each hamster has its own signature sound. There are a total of over forty different sounds spread across the five hamsters.
When they are in exploring mode the hamsters like to run around - either inside their special "hamster habitats" or on any hard floor. The habitats can be disassembled and rearranged in a variety of different combinations. These include tracks, toys, tubes and even a little hamster car.
There's a long list of toys and accessories which can be used with the hamsters. You can get a hamster wheel with a tunnel, a little hamster car, a surfboard, a skateboard, sleep dome, hamster carriers, hamster blankets. There's no shortage of things for them to play and interact with.
Children just adore these cute little furballs. They interact, they are small and furry and the process of redesigning and assembling the hamster environments will stop them getting bored and let them use their imagination.
One of the marketing slogans for Zhu Zhu hamsters is "pets without the mess" - and that's a definite bonus for many parents. There's no need to feed them, no need to keep their water bowl topped up and no need to clean out their cage. A couple of AAA batteries from time to time is all the maintenance that will be required.
The Zhu Zhu pets are motorized and contain some small parts - so they are not ideal for very small children. The target age range is from four, up to ten, years old.
These toys are going to be the next big thing (for a while at least). The manufacturer has released them at an ideal time, just enough time to build up a following before Christmas but not enough time for them to become yesterday's news before the Yuletide gift season. If you know a child who would like one of these for Christmas then you would probably be well advised to get your order in well in advance.
